The Cultural Committee at the Arts Club is thrilled to invite you to a Creators Conversation with the acclaimed Afro-Cuban Artist Ken Shep, and to view his art. His groundbreaking visual art emerges as a force unbound by convention, effortlessly navigating my riad media to craft his visionary masterpieces. From the ethereal landscapes of digital art to the tactile allure of metalwork, acrylics, and oils, his work knows no limits.
His work has appeared in the esteemed 2023 London Art Biennale. Its subsequent showcase at the Redwood Art Group’s Art Expo in New York and Spectrum Miami further solidified Ken's position as a trailblazer in contemporary art. Ken's transcendent creations have captured the attention of cultural luminaries including Kanye West, Cardi B, Rick Ross, and Dawn Richards. Noteworthy collaborations with industry leaders such as Disguise Systems for Disney’s Mandalorian and designer Oscar Utierre, featured in Vogue, underscore Ken's indelible impact on the intersection of art, fashion, and entertainment.
Barrie Zucal, the Chair of the Cultural Committee, met Ken in his studio at The Workhouse in Lorton, VA, and was deeply moved by his paintings of women – their beauty, substance, and meaning. She spoke with him about his new collection, The Aviatrix series, which honors Black women aviators, many of whom trained the Tuskegee Airmen but were left out of the history books — a body of work built on real historical research and reverence, not just aesthetics.
