Connolly reads from her new book, Instructions at Sunset, described as a beguiling mix of landscape, fable, and narrative poetry celebrating abundance yet accepting “the whisper of death.” Billy Collins noted that Connolly’s work shows “a winning combination: an unbroken contact with the natural world and a flair for metaphoric inventiveness.”
Connolly’s work has appeared in Poetry and Gettysburg Review. She has taught at the Writers Center, the Chautauqua Institution and the University of Arizona poetry Center, and received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Maryland Arts Council, and Breadloaf Writers.
Grace Cavalieri was Maryland’s tenth Poet Laureate (2018-2023.) Her new books are: The Third Voice; Fables from Italy and Beyond (2025;) Owning The Not So Distant Worldwhich won the Blue Light Book Award, (2024;) and, The long Game: poems, New & Selected (2023.) She founded and still produces “the Poet and the Poem” for public radio, from the Library of Congress, celebrating 48 years on-air. She holds , among awards, the CPB silver medal. 25 years of her podcast were set to the moon on lunar codex 2023. She is an Academy of American Poets Fellow.
