Artists

Founded in 2010, The Last Stand Quartet brings together four of The National Symphony Orchestra’s musicians - violinists Joel Fuller and Derek Powell, violist Mahoko Eguchi and cellist Rachel Young - who each enjoy sharing their passion for chamber music and performing for a wide range of audiences.

Commended by The Washington Post for their “consistent refinement and interpretive restraint”, The Last Stand Quartet’s performance highlights include a sold-out concert for the Kennedy Center’s Fortas Chamber Music Series, the Odeon Chamber Music Series, a collaborative performance with Kentucky Shakespeare entitled Sonnets and Soliloquies, shows at the DC gathering place Busboys and Poets, Hip Hop Collaborations through The National Symphony Orchestra’s In Your Neighborhood initiative, frequent appearances on the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage, and the Chamber Music Series at George Washington’s Mount Vernon.

Natalia Kazaryan is a concert pianist and founder of Counterpoint Concerts. From Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia, pianist Natalia Kazaryan has been hailed by The New York Sun for her “prodigious ability,” remarking that she “immediately established an atmosphere of strength and confidence.” She is “a marvel among marvels … fascinating, elegant” (Nice-Matin) and “incredible” (All Classical Portland). Dedicated to giving equal platform to female composers in her public appearances, she notably curated and performed a recital of all women composers at the Smithsonian Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C., a performance The Washington Post named “one of the best classical concerts of the summer 2019.”

As a soloist, she has performed both major and lesser-known concertos — including those of Florence Price, Clara Schumann, Rachmaninov, Grieg, Prokofiev, and Mozart — with the National Symphony Orchestra, the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra, the National Orchestral Institute Philharmonic, the Harrisburg Symphony, and other ensembles across the country.

Ms. Kazaryan’s acclaimed performance of Florence Price’s Piano Concerto in One Movement, conducted by James Ross, was featured on Front Row Washington (WETA), DC’s classical music radio station.

Event reception begins at 6:30 pm. Performance begins at 7:15 pm.

* The price of your ticket includes hors d’oeuvres and drinks from the open wine and beer bar.
