Women Around the World: Stories of Romance, Nature, and Light Women Around the World highlights two composers whose music draws deeply on nature and emotion. Sofia Gubaidulina’s Sounds of the Forests and Allegro Rustico capture both the delicacy and raw energy of the natural world, while Yuko Uebayashi’s Sonata unfolds in impressionistic textures and lyrical lines. Together, these works create a journey where flute and piano become storytellers of beauty and atmosphere.

About the Artists:
Praised for his “lustrous tone” (Musical America) and “interpretive intelligence” (New York Classical Review), Italian flutist Giorgio Consolati has performed as soloist and chamber musician at Carnegie Hall, David Geffen Hall, the New World Center, and the Beijing China Conservatory. A passionate chamber musician, he has appeared at the Marlboro and Norfolk festivals and frequently collaborates with composers to expand the flute repertoire. A native of Milan, Giorgio was the first flutist in his Conservatory’s history to graduate with top honors and honorable mention. A Kovner Fellow at The Juilliard School, he earned his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees with Carol Wincenc. He is now pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts with Marina Piccinini at the Peabody Institute, where he also completed the Artist Diploma. Pianist Hui-Chuan Chen has performed widely across the United States, Europe, and Asia, with appearances at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, the National Gallery of Art, and the Aspen Music Festival. She has also been featured at the Phillips Collection, Barge Music Festival, and the Supreme Court of the United States. A dedicated educator, Hui-Chuan completed her Doctor of Musical Arts at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University and currently serves on the faculty of Peabody and the University of Maryland Baltimore County. She has also taught at the Washington Conservatory of Music and the Heifetz International Music Institute.
