Pride Poetry Workshop

“Poetry in Translation”

Tuesday, April 15, 2025

6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

OPEN TO THE PUBLIC - FREE

Participants will look at ghazals by Urdu master poet Ghalib, translated by a range of American poets into English. We will discuss how and why translations vary, and how reading poems in translation can affect our own poetry. Participants will then write their own poems inspired by Ghalib. Led by Saundra Rose Maley, co-editor of James Wright’s Selected Letters and two books on Wright and translation, and co-founder of Confluence, the only annual conference in the DC area dedicated to the art of literary translation.

This project is supported in part by the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, which receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts.

The Arts Club of Washington is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. located at 2017 I Street N.W., Washington D.C. 20006
