OPEN TO THE PUBLIC - FREE

Every four years, we greet a new administration, and this January, during inauguration month, the Pride Poetry residency presents “Writing Political Poems.” In this workshop, we will discuss what makes a poem “political” and what makes a political poem good. We’ll look at some examples of poetry that has been written and read as directly involved in political struggles, especially poems that emerge from LBGTQ+ contexts. Then we’ll try out writing some political poetry ourselves. Led by Chris Nealon, Professor of English at Johns Hopkins University, and author of five books of poems and three books of literary criticism.

This project is supported in part by the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, which receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts.
