present a

Private Tour:

Octagon House

Neighborly Relations in the Federal Period

Monday, April 15th, 11:00 a.m.

Octagon House was built in 1799 as one of the grandest homes in the nation at a cost of over $970 million in today's currency. The three-story brick house displays a dramatic break with the traditional, late Georgian and early Federal house planning that preceded it.

The Octagon House is considered by many architectural historians as the  zenith in American Federal architecture due to its elegance and restraint of both exterior design and interior decoration. The decorative elements and furniture were imported from England; construction materials were manufactured locally.

Club members are invited to join our volunteer docents* on an educational tour that will focus on the parallels between this grand home and our own clubhouse, including their periods as Presidential residences.

$5, payable on-site by cash or credit/debit card.

RSVP is required for participation, which is limited to 10.

Limited to Members and one Guest
