Join prize-winning writer-translators Nancy Naomi Carlson and Esperanza Hope Snyder to celebrate their co-translation of Wendy Guerra's DELICATES (Seagull Books, 2023), and the release of Nancy Naomi Carlson's PIANO IN THE DARK (Seagull Books, 2023).
Wendy Guerra is a Cuban poet whose music-infused work confronts the realities of a political system that doesn't celebrate artistic freedom. She has been awarded the Carbet des Lyceens prize and the Bruguera Novel Prize.
Nancy Naomi Carlson is a poet, translator, and essayist, and winner of the 2022 Oxford-Weidenfeld Translation Prize. Her book An Infusion of Violets was named "New and Noteworthy" by the New York Times.
Co-translator Esperanza Hope Synder's honors include the Donald Everitt Axinn Award in Poetry and fellowships from the Gettysburg Review and The Kenyon Review.
Readings from both books will be followed by a discussion about how translation informs the writing process and an opportunity for audience questions.
Doors open at 6:30 pm and program will begin 7:00 pm.
