About the artists:
Armenian- American violinist Hoorig Taline Poochikian has performed at a number of prestigious venues across North America including Carnegie Hall, Merkin Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the National Arts Center in Canada. She received her doctoral degree in violin performance in May 2020 from Stony Brook University studying with Hagai Shaham. She also earned degrees from University of Maryland studying with Dr. James Stern, and the University of Ottawa studying with Yehonatan Berick. An avid chamber musician, Hoorig has collaborated with members of the Emerson String Quartet, Avalon String Quartet, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, pianist Christina Dahl and composer Vache Sharafyan. She made her live radio broadcast debut on Classical KING FM in Seattle, performing with pianist Oksana Ejokina. With a special passion for education, Hoorig currently teaches privately and at several music schools in the DC metro area. She also maintains an active career as a freelance chamber musician performing at various concert series around the country.
Long Island native Emily Doveala is a dedicated music educator and cellist who is passionate about curating unique concert experiences. In a lecture recital project on the music of jazz-classical composer Nikolai Kapustin, Emily performed with pianist Ria Yang for both the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Balcony Bar at Home series and for a recital at the Baltimore venue An Die Musik LIVE. As an orchestral musician, she has played with the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra, Alexandria Symphony, Annapolis Opera Company, Binghamton Philharmonic, Washington City Choir, Avanti Orchestra, Northern Tier Orchestra, and the Southold Opera.
Dr. Doveala began studying the cello at age nine. She started her formal musical training at Mannes Prep, studying with Dorothy Lawson of the ETHEL Quartet. She went on to receive her Bachelor of Music in Cello Performance at Ithaca College, and a Master’s Degree in Cello Performance from Stony Brook University. In 2022, Emily completed her Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Maryland. Currently, Emily is an active freelance musician and music educator in the Washington, D.C. area. In addition to teaching private lessons, Emily teaches at the Mclean School, the International School of Music, and the College of Southern Maryland.
Born in Ukraine, Misha Tumanov started his musical education in Costa Rica at the Instituto Superior de Artes and the Pre-College Program of the National University, studying with Alexandr Sklioutovsky. After graduating with honors from the National University at age seventeen, he continued his studies with Ray Kilburn at Ball State University, receiving a Master’s Degree and Artist Diploma in piano performance. Misha earned his Doctorate at the University of Maryland, under Larissa Dedova. His major teachers also include Anna Balakerskaia and Ludmila Melzer.
Misha Tumanov is a frequent performer at festivals and conferences, both as a solo and collaborative pianist, including the Washington International Piano Festival, the International Double Reed Society conference, MTNA, Piano Technicians Guild, and Orfeo Music Festival in Italy. He has been a featured soloist with the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, the National and Youth Symphony Orchestras of Costa Rica, ProArte Chamber Orchestra, and the Reston Community Orchestra. Misha has won numerous awards and competitions, including 2nd place at the East-Central Division of the MTNA National Competition, the Indianapolis Matinee Musicale, and 1st Prize at the Pinault International Competition in New York.
In 2021, he released his second solo CD featuring works by Shostakovich, Prokofiev, Feinberg, and Deshevov.
