Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at 6:00 pm
FREE & OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
(RSVP required)
The Arts Club welcomes the 10th Voice as a Bridge evening, an event that celebrates poetry in many languages. Poets including Helen Han, Barbara Goldberg, and Cymn Lai Fong Wong will read poems in languages including Korean, Hebrew, and Chinese, followed by each poem’s English translation. The program also will feature interludes of traditional Chinese music and Italian opera, acknowledging the fact that the Voice as a Bridge evenings originally were developed and performed at the Italian Embassy. The event will be hosted by Grace Cavalieri, Maryland’s Poet Laureate, with a reception to follow.
Grace Cavalieri is Maryland’s State Poet Laureate. She’s the author of numerous books of poetry and produced plays. Grace founded, and still produces, The Poet and the Poem on podcast and radio, celebrating 46 years on-air in 2023. The series is produced at the Library of Congress, free to all public radio. Her new book, THE LONG GAME: Poems Selected and New (The Word Works) will be available in fall 2023, and she is a long time member of the Arts Club.
Doors open at 6:00 pm and program will begin 6:30 pm. Following the reading there will be a wine reception.
