Artist bios:
Glen Kuenzi has been an up and coming violinist in Wisconsin for the last several years. He earned his B.S. in Violin Performance and economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2022. He was one of the leading members of the University’s orchestra as an undergraduate, performing as concertmaster and principal second violin during his senior year. Since 2020 he has been a regular substitute with the Madison Symphony Orchestra, performing with notable artists Olga Kern and Thomas Mesa in 2021. He has also been active in the Madison theater scene, playing in the orchestra for local productions of Parade and West Side Story. At UW-Madison, Glen has performed in Masterclasses with Anna Elashvili and the Decoda ensemble, as well as Spektral Quartet. In the summer of 2021, Glen was hired for the orchestra of summer opera festival La Musica Lyrica. He is now studying for his M.M. in Violin Performance at the University of Maryland-College Park in the studio of Irina Muresanu. He is an ensemble assistant with principal duties in the University Symphony, he played a masterclass with Ioana Cristina Goicea and advanced to the semi-finals of the music school’s concerto competition. During the summer of 2023 Glen will be an orchestral fellow at the National Orchestral Institute and Eastern Music Festival, including a special string quartet performance using the Smithsonian’s priceless collection of Stradivarius instruments.
Cellist Katie McCarthy is an active performer, teacher, and arts advocate based in Washington, D.C. She was recently selected to play with the Piatigorsky Cello Festival Mass Cello Ensemble at Walt Disney Hall in Los Angeles. She is a regular member of the Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, and appears regularly in local orchestras, such as the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra, Arlington Philharmonic, and Annapolis Chamber Orchestra. Her masterclass performances have been given by Hai-Ye Ni of the Philadelphia Orchestra, Astrid Schween of the Juilliard Quartet, and the Shanghai Quartet. Ms. McCarthy is passionate about new music and highlighting the music of historically underrepresented composers. Her recent solo recitals featured works by Tania Léon, Nadia Boulanger, Caroline Ahn, Jessie Montgomery, and Maria Newman. Ms. McCarthy is passionate about community engagement in the arts, and continuously learns and acts on the ways musicians can impact and engage their surrounding communities. She plays on a 2016 cello made by Jason Starkie. Ms. McCarthy holds a M.M. in Cello Performance and B.M. in Cello Performance from UMD. Go Terps!
Anthony Bock is a chamber musician, vocal coach, and collaborative pianist born in Medford, Oregon. Bock has competed and performed throughout the United States and Europe. He has won awards in numerous competitions including 1st prize in the Oregon Music Teachers Association (OMTA) Sonata Competition, OMTA Bach Competition, OMTA Classical and Baroque festival, the 2016-2020 Evans Family Scholarship at Southern Oregon University (SOU), the Brookings Friends of Music Scholarship competition, placed 3rd at Washington International Piano Competition at the Kennedy Center, and has won an orchestral fellowship at Eastern Music Festival. Outside of music, Bock has a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and enjoys hiking, camping, and sports. Bock is an avid performer throughout the Pacific Northwest and the Northeastern United States and has played with numerous jazz ensembles, chamber groups, choirs, opera companies, Theater companies and orchestras. Bock has earned his Bachelor of Music from SOU. During his time at SOU he studied under the instruction of Dr. Alexander Tutunov and Dr. Matthew Goodrich. Bock has completed a Masters of music degree in Collaborative Piano at University of Maryland and is now studying for a Doctorate degree in Collaborative Piano both under the tutelage of Rita Sloan.
