Bio for Millicent Scarlett:
Ms. Scarlett will delight once again, returning to the Arts Club amidst a tour to Canada, called "In Plain Sight", which features the Art Songs of African American Women composers. She will return to the Washington National Cathedral with The Choral Arts Society of Washington in their concert, O What a Beautiful City, performing Gwyneth Walker’s A Heart in Hiding. Ms. Scarlett heads to New York City to perform at the Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre with Dana Tai Soon Burgess Dance Company, and then to the Kennedy Center to sing in the Messiah Sing A-Long. Ms. Scarlett sang at The Senate Project, an event sponsored by the Bipartisan Policy for C-SPAN, at the Jack Morton Auditorium. She performed at the Inaugural Hunt Country Music Festival, held in Middleburg, Virginia on an Afternoon of Song.
In 2020-2021, Ms. Scarlett performed with the Dana Tai Soon Burgess Dance Company at their gala held at the Arts Club of Washington, and with the George Washington University’s Dance department, where she sang selections from their Tribute to Marian Anderson, which premiered at the National Portrait Gallery in March. She represented the Corcoran School of Arts and Design, at George Washington University's Bi-Centennial Celebration and presented a mini concert for The Rug Store Concert series held in Virginia. Ms. Scarlett performed Verdi’s Requiem with the Washington Choral Arts Society of Washington, at Strathmore, and on a studio recording for a new musical When We Get There, composed by Charlie Barnett.
During the 2019-2020 season, Ms. Scarlett was heard in the role of Ida. B. Wells, in the World Premiere of “19: The Musical" at the National Museum of Women in the Arts, in November 2019. Other engagements included MNCPPC's Black History Month Program, where she was featured in selections from 19: The Musical, The Kennedy Center’s Messiah Sing -A-Long, under the baton of Maestra Nancia D’Alimonte, whom she performed Strauss' “Last Four Songs” and Beethoven's Ninth”, with the NIH Philharmonia, and several recitals in Jacksonville, Florida and within the Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia area.
Other performances of note include “God's Gonna Trouble the Water”, celebrating the opening of the National Museum of African American Art and Culture in Washington, DC, The Annual Veteran's Day Concert with the President's Own Marine Chamber Orchestra, under the baton of Lt. Col. Jason Fettig, both held at the Washington National Cathedral. The World Premieres of Ozone at the Kennedy Center and The Doctor of Alcantara at Strathmore Music Hall.
Ms. Scarlett is a winner of many awards, most notably The Luciano Pavarotti International Competition, and National Semi-Finalist at the Metropolitan Opera.
