The Arts Club at Home:

Short Story Round-Robin Live Reading and Discussion

"The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson

Thursday, June 17, 2021, at 1:00 pm

OPEN TO MEMBERS - FREE

First 'in person' meeting at the Club!!

Enjoy lunch before the meeting!

The Literature Committee invites you to join us for the next installment in the short story reading-and-discussion series to be held for the first time, not on Zoom, but in person and outdoors at the Club (weather permitting).  Participants are invited to attend the Club lunch beforehand at 12 noon.

The story is "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson, one of the most famous short stories in American literature.  First published in the June 26, 1948, issue of The New Yorker, the story brought an unexpectedly strong negative response from readers: subscriptions were canceled, and much hate mail was received.  Join us for the reading and discussion and find out more about this chilling and provocative story.

As usual, we will take turns reading the poem aloud, in round-robin fashion, and discuss it afterward.  Literature Committee member/librarian/short story aficionado Bill Turner will facilitate.

Please join us!  RSVP online today!
