Join us on March 16th at 7 pm for a virtual poetry reading by Anne Harding Woodworth.
Anne will read from her new book Trouble. The book includes the group of poems “Hannah Alive” which form the basis for a one-woman play. That play was a finalist at the Adirondack Shakespeare Co. festival.
Anne is the author of seven books of poetry and four chapbooks. Her poem “Looking Homeward” was selected by Terence Winch for the Best American Poetry blog. An excerpt from her chapbook The Last Gun won the COG Poetry Award.
The poems in Trouble show a wry attention to the nuances of human (and animal) behavior, as in these excerpts:
Tony isn’t in heaven
Flashback: I knew
about the woman in the pink
angora sweater
* * *
During sex
the male spider, P. mirabilis
is known to fake his own death
so his mate won’t kill him
he lures her with a “nuptial gift,”
but holds on to it
even in death
just in case
she has a mind
to run off with it
Following the reading, there will be a question and answer period.
