The Literature Committee invites you to join us for the next installment in the short story reading-and-discussion series to be held Thursday, February 18, at 1:00 p.m.--"The Man Who Was Almost a Man" by Richard Wright--in celebration of February as Black History Month.
Published in 1961, the story centers on a young African American farm worker struggling to find his identity in the rural South in the 1930s, and it speaks to causes underlying the Black Lives Matter movement of today. The story was adapted into a 36-minute PBS film you can access on the website of the DC Public Library (click on "COMPLETE LIST OF DATABASES", click on "ACCESS VIDEO", and type "Almos' a Man" in the search field.)
Please join us for this timely and important and fun reading and discussion. RSVP online today!
Participants will take turns reading the story aloud, in round-robin fashion, and discuss it afterward. Literature Committee member and librarian Bill Turner will facilitate. You won't want to miss this one.
A Zoom link to join the meeting will be sent to participants before the event.
A Zoom link for this event will be sent once you register and when the event begins.
