OPEN TO MEMBERS - FREE
The Literature Committee is pleased to announce a third installment in the short story reading-and-discussion series--this time, An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge by Ambrose Bierce, with its pulse pounding narrative and infamous surprise ending--which will take place on Thursday, June 18, at 1:00 p.m. on Zoom. As with our first two offerings, Anton Chekhov's "The Bet," and Mark Twain's "Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County," participants will take turns reading the story aloud a few paragraphs at a time, in round-robin fashion, and discuss it afterward. Literature Committee member and former librarian Bill Turner will offer remarks and act as facilitator.
Participation is open to all members, with a limit of 12 readers (and any more to go on a waitlist). Any others are welcome to sit in as an audience. An invitation to join the event on Zoom, along with discussion questions, will be sent to participants on June 16. Please join us as the Arts Club ventures again into social media--and add your voice to the reading and discussion of what novelist Kurt Vonnegut has called "the greatest American short story" and "a flawless example of American genius"--Ambrose Bierce's "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge"
