AMY BORMET
Amy K. Bormet is a pianist, vocalist, and composer, known for her free-wheeling style and dedication to new music. as an advocate for DC’s unique jazz scene, she co-hosts a weekly radio show on WPFW 89.3FM, Jazz Stories, with a focus on local interviews and music. To collaborate with and celebrate women musicians, she created the annual Washington Women in Jazz Festival in 2011.
She has formed several ensembles for performance and albums: Her quintet, Ephemera, a project of women's poetry and improvisation, performed a two-week tour of Sweden. The Harold Trio, an instant composition ensemble with Tina Raymond, drums and Biggi Vinkeloe, saxophone/flute, released their second album, Open Secrets, in April 2019. Her Los Angeles-based quintet co-led with Brazilian drummer Ana Barreiro, Amy Ana, released their debut album in February 2019, and is nominated for the DC Jazz Prix, an international competition that will be held June 15 at the DC Jazz Festival.
