MY ARCHITECT: A SON'S JOURNEY

Please join us for a screening of the Academy Award-nominated 2003 documentary film about Louis Kahn, the subject of Wendy Lesser's 2017 Marfield Prize-winning biography for arts writing. Copies of her book, You Say to Brick: The Life of Louis Kahn, will be available in both hardcover and paperback for purchase at the screening.

Written, produced, and directed by Kahn's son Nathaniel, My Architect details Louis Kahn's extraordinary career. It features interviews with renowned architects Philip Johnson, Frank Gehry, and I.M. Pei and follows the director as he visits all of his father's buildings. 

The film also explores Kahn's complicated family life, having fathered children by three different partners, each of whom was kept in the dark about the existence of his other families. Reviewing the film in Chicago Reader, David Schwartz wrote, "This absorbing, beautiful documentary is the first-person odyssey of Nathaniel Kahn, son of legendary architect Louis Kahn by one of his longtime mistresses. Despite his accomplishments, Kahn Sr. died a penniless loner in Penn Station in 1974, leaving behind three families ... Seeking to unravel his father's mysterious personal life, Nathaniel combines rare personal footage and compelling interviews with the elder Kahn's colleagues, friends, and families."
