MICHAEL WEISS

Michael Weiss has appeared with a host of major artists and ensembles during his career. Memorable collaborations include Johnny Griffin, Benny Golson, Slide Hampton, Jon Hendricks, and Lou Donaldson, among countless others. Weiss is a two-time Doris Duke/Chamber Music America New Works grant recipient and was the grand prize winner of the 2000 BMI/Thelonious Monk Institute's Composition Competition.

Pianist Michael Weiss fifteen year association with Johnny Griffin yielded four recordings and annual tours worldwide. He has also performed with Joe Henderson, George Coleman, Ron Carter, Wynton Marsalis, Slide Hampton, and countless others. As a band leader, Weiss has headlined at the Village Vanguard, Detroit Jazz Festival, Smithsonian Institution, and all major New York venues. Television appearances include CBS-TV’s Nightwatch with Charlie Rose and PBS’ Live From Lincoln Center: The City of Jazz. NPR radio appearances include PianoJazz with Marion McPartland, Jazzset and Making the Music with Wynton Marsalis.

Piano Jazz at the Arts Club, now in its fourth year, is a series of concerts focusing on innovation in modern jazz piano. Four reigning artists perform their own compositions celebrating a hundred years of Piano Jazz in Washington, DC.
