What can you expect coming to our cabaret evenings? Sometimes familiar tunes, to be sure, but we specialize in original cabaret compositions, sometimes crossover genres, and we encourage artists to bend and push boundaries of the cabaret form and always speak to our current times, in the space and the place where we are. We come together for an intimate experience with artists who have something to say and engage in lively conversation with the artists following every performance.

The Arts Club of Washington venue is intimate, perfect for an optimal cabaret experience.

Includes a small bites buffet and a signature cocktail created for this performance. Following the show you will meet the artist and enjoy other fine company. For each performance, the bar opens at 6:30 pm, the show starts at 7:00 pm.

Her London productions include Lend Me a Tenor and Romantics Anonymous - The Musical.sical.

Come rally your spirits with the spontaneous mirth and joy of iMusical, the improvised musical phenomenon! Stirring up musical mayhem on stage at Washington ImprovTheater for nearly 20 years, iMusical takes a unique playful and heartfelt musical journey with each performance, all inspired by an audience suggestion.

The Washington Post calls iMusical “spot on.” The cast has performed to standing ovations in multiple comedy festivals including in Baltimore, Philadelphia, and New York as well as at venues across the Washington, D.C., area.

If you’ve never seen an improved musical before, or even if you have, you will be truly amazed! A group of performers and musicians will literally create a new comedic musical – storyline, action, lyrics, music – that has never been performed before and will never be performed again. The only way to experience this ephemeral magic is to be there live, in the room where it happens!

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Performance at 7:00 p.m. Following the performance

(approximately 8 p.m.), stand-up buffet of finger foods and drinks included with your ticket at no additional cost.

The Arts Club’s five talented and diverse 2024 Pride Poets in Residence culminate their residency with a reading, presented in honor of National LGBTQ+ Pride Month. Join us for a poetry reading by five of the most notable poets from the DC region: Regie Cabico, Ishanee Chanda, Jona Colson, Hiram Larew and Michelle Parkerson, followed by a reception and book signing.The Pride Poetry residency for 2026 concludes with a reading by this year's cohort: Gregory Adams, Marlena Chertock, Xochi Quetzali Cartland, Angelique Palmer, and Nico Penaranda. The reading will be followed by a reception honoring the poets.

Mary-Victoria Voutsas has given solo recitals at prominent venues, including the Kennedy Center’s Terrace Theatre, and performed with ensembles such as the Peabody Chamber Orchestra and members of the National Symphony Orchestra. She was the pianist for the celebration of the 75th NATO Summit and recently completed a 10-week artist residency for the World Bank.

Her awards include the 2023 Gold Medal for the Nobel-Artist International Competition, First Place in the 2023 World Music Competition of Charlotteville, Bronze Medal in the 2023 Carles amd Sofia - Alicia de Laroccha International Piano Competition, and is the 2023 Platinum Medal recipient for the Quebec International Music Festival.

Voutsas studied under Nikita Fitenko, Yuliya Gorenman, and Tatyana Hearne, and holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Catholic University. She previously worked as a visiting teaching artist-in-residence at the Wolf Trap Center for the Performing Arts. Currently, she serves as a collaborative pianist for Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond.

This Salon Concert is presented by the Classical Music Committee of The Arts Club of

Washington, and seeks to offer chamber music in an historic atmosphere evocative of the period during which the music was written.

Reporter David Boothe (Robert Preston) is in Las Vegas covering a story. His wife, Joan (Barbara Stanwyck), looking for a story of her own, snoops around their hotel's casino with a concealed camera. The casino owner, Horace Corrigan (Stephen McNally), catches her, but, seeing that she is not a hustler, decides to provide her with some free chips so she can sample the casino's various games. She accepts, only to find gambling so engrossing that it might consume and destroy her life.

Join us for an evening at the intersection of artistry and discovery — exploring the creative dimensions of invention, patents, and publishing through the remarkable story behind The Boy Who Invented Television: A Story of Inspiration, Persistence and Quiet Passion and the forgotten genius who inspired it.

This event promises a rich conversation at the intersection of creativity and discovery — exploring how invention, intellectual property, and the art of book publishing all draw on the same disciplined human imagination.

What does it mean to invent something entirely new? How do patents protect a creative vision? And what craft goes into transforming a forgotten inventor’s life into a book worthy of the story?

About the Book

Invention, at its finest, is an act of imagination. When Philo T. Farnsworth — a self-educated farm boy from Rigby, Idaho — first conceived of electronic television at fourteen, he wasn’t merely solving an engineering problem. He was picturing an entirely new way of seeing: trapping light in an empty jar and transmitting it, one line at a time, on a magnetically deflected beam of electrons.

Six years later, that vision became the world’s first fully electronic television system. The patents Farnsworth filed were themselves a form of creative documentation — precise, elegant descriptions of an entirely original art. Defending them against the Radio Corporation of America became a decade-long drama of creative ownership versus corporate power, a story as compelling as the invention itself.

The book tells this story with the care it deserves — a bestseller endorsed by the Biography Channel and praised by PC Magazine. Elma “Pem” Farnsworth called it a work that captures “the true spirit of my husband’s journey of discovery” — a journey that began in a potato field and ended in the living rooms of the world.

About the Speaker

Bruce Fries is a publisher and creative director whose work sits at the crossroads of ideas, craft, and commerce. As founder of TeamCom Books, he served as the artistic and editorial force behind The Boy Who Invented Television — designing the cover, setting the type, shaping the layout, and constructing the index — making the book as carefully wrought as the invention it chronicles.

His previous book on MP3 technology was also a category bestseller, launched through a national publicity campaign including CNN Headline News appearances and more than 100 bookstore events. Bruce brings a publisher’s perspective on the creative parallels between inventing something new and crafting a book worthy of it.
