Little is known in the West about the exquisite women’s dance traditions of Uzbekistan which carry in them the history of the ancient Silk Road and the innermost longings of women forbidden to perform in public.
This conversation will touch upon the fascinating development of these dances, from connections to goddesses and women’s traditions, dancing boys, and distinct regional styles. Illustrated with performances by Gray’s Silk Road Dance Company, this evening’s presentation offers an intriguing glimpse into the world of Central Asian women’s creativity.
* By special arrangement with the publisher, advance copies of “Women’s Dance Traditions of Uzbekistan: Legacy of the Silk Road” will be available for purchase at the event.
